After years of experience developing HDD tools for other OEM's Riff Wright left his position as General Manager of Railhead Underground Products along with David Bullock, a lead tool designer and Manufacturing Manager to focus on creating the next generation of HDD tooling. Radius HDD was founded in 2003 initially offering tool repair services to boring contractors across the country.

While repairing all brands of HDD tooling in the shop and in the field, the Radius HDD team saw first hand the successes and failures of other manufacturers’ tool designs.  By working directly with contractors, Radius developed tooling that addressed the problems drillers were encountering with their existing tools.  Problems such as damaging elliptical drilling processes, teeth ripping out of their pockets, cracking, interior water port damage, premature wear, housing door failures and lost sondes were all addressed in the design of the Radius rock bit and sonde housing.

Utilizing the latest computerized CNC machining equipment and decades of combined manufacturing experience, the Radius Team is driven to becoming a leader in the development of HDD tooling products and technology.

With increasing domestic and international sales, Radius HDD has tripled in size since the introduction of its first bit and housing and the product line continues to develop and grow.  In 2007, Radius introduced its MAXIMUS line of oversized bits and housings for the big rigs over 100K.  Plus, Radius still works with drillers in the field to learn what works, what doesn’t and how the company can continue to develop effective tools to help make today’s HDD contractor even more productive.
